MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS

CLAC's organizing process, which includes its Networks have reached the following achievements:

•  A constant exchange and communication between organizations of small producers in the region, and with Networks in other continents, developing strategies for building agreements and enhancing democratic decision making.

•  Small producers have progressively managed to participate in the ruling entities of the different Fair Trade organizations at a global scale.

•  Recently the actions of CLAC have resulted in FLO International's acceptance to share its properties with the Producers Networks.

•  CLAC along with the Mexican Network, Fair Trade Mexico and the Government of Chiapas, Mexico, managed to organize an important International Conference on Fair Trade, in which nearly 1,000 people from 60 countries participated. This conference took place in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas on March 2006 ( www.fits.chiapas.gob.mx ). It became the first International Fair Trade event organized by southern producer organizations with the participation of the most important International and regional Fair Trade Networks.

•  CLAC small producers created a symbol to identify small Fair Trade producers in the movement for International Fair Trade.

•  CLAC managed to develop a series of Fair Trade regulations for small producers which rule regional and International markets.

•  CLAC managed to establish a communication and collaboration channel with AFN (African Fair Trade Network) sharing in the process, a high degree of common perspectives and identification. In June 2006, four members of the CLAC Board participated at the General Assembly of the AFN and at the constitutional Assembly of the East African Fair Trade Network, in Moshi, Tanzania.

CLAC has been invited as a partner of the Spanish Fair Trade Initiative, by the Latin American Fair Trade Board, the Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of Social and Solidarity Economy, RIPESS, among others.
