CLAC´s Mission

The mission of CLAC is: "To be the organ of representation, coordination, exchange and collaboration for the strengthening of cooperative organizations of small Latin American and Caribbean producers in the framework of Fair Trade.

The Scope of the CLAC

The process of articulating different organizations of small Fair Trade producers of the region which originated CLAC, has allowed a strong increase on the presence, visibility and influence of these small producers in the international Fair Trade scene.

During the process of conformation and consolidation of the Fair Trade markets in the past 20 years, never before small producers of a variety of goods have reached the level of coordination in the international arena like the one actually gained through CLAC.

Nowadays CLAC has a representation in the Board of FLO International, as well as in the International Committee of IFAT, both being the most important Fair Trade Networks at a global scale.

For the organizations of small Fair Trade producers, CLAC has become a representative institution which has allowed them to influence the International Fair Trade rules and policies. On the other hand, CLAC has initiated a process to achieve influence by defending the interests of small producers within the international arena, regarding issues like commerce and production.
